Module 13-14

The Lowdown on Lowbrow:West Coast Pop Art- A lowbrow is a person regarded as uncultivated and lacking in taste. It includes a lot of naked women. Robert Williams created the term from a book. It could be looked at as lowbrow surrealism. The very beginning of the video was really strange. I do not understand how some of the pieces are art. I do really like the color in the rock posters. Tiki culture has the same origins as the Lowbrow. curators were not taking them seriously because they did not fell it was intelligent art. To me even if I do not like something I would give it the time to look it over and not treat someone terribly because of it. "I'll look at your slides if you unload my truck" that is bull. Lowbrow is more open to woman. Cd's and record covers helped to show their art, more people see the CD art than galleries. As different as I thought this video was, it was really interesting. The curators were not helping the artists, but it did not stop them from showing their art. I feel like it relates to the project because we all have different taste in art and one person might pick pieces that another person does not find as art.
Displaying Modern Art: The Tate Approach- The curators have had to move some of the art because it is so large and they had thousands more visitors than expected. One million viewers in the first month. We get to hear from the curators. Art is self contained.  There are 4 sections in the Tate Museum. This allows to have four themes. multiple terms to describe allows the curators to expand on the themes. The displays are supposed to be changed periodically. This video fits with our project because we see how a museum is designed by the curators. This was an okay video for me, I found it to be a little boring the way they presented the information.
Bones of Contention: Native American Archaeology- This video I do not feel has to really do with the project. I also do not feel that it was a good video. The finding of bones and human remains is interesting but it is not art to me because they are bones and remains. They were not made or created by an artists. I did find it interesting that they could tell what race a person was through the bones.
An Acquiring Mind: Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan-Yes they fit in with the Art Exhibition project because they are art curators. A museum is never finished.  Changes are constantly being made and pieces are being changed out. Some of the works like the half of the head I did not understand why that was such a wonderful piece. To me it looked like it could have been a great piece until it was dropped and broken, but it was designed that way. This was an okay video.
