Art Gallery Visit 1- ALBRIGHT KNOX

A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
Edwin Walter Dickinson- 1891-1978, American, An Anniversary, Oil on Canvas, it makes a strong impression on me because of how dark it looks. Anniversary should be a joyous occasion and this piece is Black and dark. it made me really think what kind of anniversary is it?
Richard Artschwager- 1923-2013, American, Thousand Cubic Inches Prototype-1996, wood with metal hardware. This made an impact an me because my father is a technology teacher. We always build together. It may look like a wooden box to most but to me, wood has a major impact on who I am because of my father.

B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
Tobi Kahn-American, born 1952, KITHU,1988. Acrylic on canvas. It may sound silly but to me this piece reminds me of high heels. I not only love shoes. Yes, it is girly. But I also wear heels when i teach. I also thought it was a beautiful piece. I like how simple it looks and the colors that were used.
Camille Pissaro- French, 1831-1903, Peasants in the Fields, Eragny, 1890. Oil on canvas. This reminds me of home. I live out in the country and there is farm land all around. My boyfriend has a a farm with horses. They do hay and plow their fields. This is such a beautiful piece. it looks like a photograph.

C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
Louise Nevelson- American, born, Ukraine, 1899-1988 Transparent Sculpture IV, 1968, Plastic. I just find that this piece is so amazing. The detail in the nails and how it is put together is crazy. This picture does not do it justice. I just find it fascinating.
Francis Michael Celentano-American, born 1928,Untitled, 1964, oil on canvas. I think this is so interesting. I really want to talk to the artist and ask why they created this and what it stand for. This is one of the first pieces I saw and wanted to just keep looking at it.

Module 5

My thought process was quite simple. I read through and watched all of the materials provided. But I came up with my logo based on who I am. I did think about other logos I have seen before. They can range from super simple to more complex. I believe my logo is in the middle. I thought of characteristics to describe who I am. Some are more subtle and you might not understand why I designed it a certain way. I did a lot of sketching. I did not spend a lot of time on it though. The more I thought and sketched the further I was from where I wanted to be. My logo symbolizes me: I love photography- filmstrip, my favorite color is red, i have a bright personality- the sun, and I am imperfect- nothing is measured and it is all free hand. I love the way my logo looks. It is me. I debated between measuring to make sure the spaces for the letters were even and if I should trace letters, but I decided nothing is perfect and to have something describe me should not be perfect either. It was hard to create the logo. I had to choose the most important things about me. I also could not decide how to do my name. I did most of my sketches as DLW DW but it was not until the final when i chose DANALYNN. I enjoyed the videos. There was so much information to take in. I really liked the video about the changing script. It showed me that everything changes so quickly. My logo that I love now might be completely different by the end of the semester.

Module 4

The one video about the color wheel did not play any sound for me but I enjoyed watching the mixture of colors. It was interesting that the different between Magenta and Red can cause such a difference from the outcome of mixtures. I thought the value video was interesting but not the exact same thing that I went through when I prepared mine. I used charcoal so I was a little more challenging because it smudges so easily and I am left handed. I was trying my best not to drag my hand an smear the charcoal like I do when writing with pencil. I thought this was a fun project. This was my first time using charcoal. It is such a different medium to use but it was cool. It is so soft and easy to make dark. It smears and dusts up. As you can see in my value picture the black dust blew across the page. I have used acrylic paint before so it was not a new experience.

Principle and Elements Project

<div style="width:480px;text-align:right;"><embed width="480" height="360" src="http://pic2.pbsrc.com/flash/rss_slideshow.swf" flashvars="rssFeed=http%3A%2F%2Ffeed884.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fac45%2Fwolberd01%2FPrinciples%2520and%2520Elements%2Ffeed.rss" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" /><a href="javascript:void(0);" target="_blank"><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/share/icons/embed/btn_geturs.gif" style="border:none;" /></a><a href="http://s884.photobucket.com/user/wolberd01/library/Principles%20and%20Elements" target="_blank"><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/share/icons/embed/btn_viewall.gif" style="border:none;" alt="wolberd01&#039;s Principles and Elements album on Photobucket" /></a></div>

When I received this project, I became very excited. I love photography and hope to have my own studio someday. That will be my side job, since I want to become a teacher. I walked around and took pictures. I did not really think at first. I wanted to capture something and see where they fit. I also did not take all of the pictures at once. It took several days. I found that if I take pictures all in one day they all turn out similar with different images. By taking them different days and time I can capture different styles. Once I took the images the first day I sat down and figured out which elements and principles I already had. Then I went out specifically to gather the rest of them. I enjoyed this project. It was one that I thought was going to be easy. It did present challenges though. Sometimes it is extremely difficult to pair a picture with an element, especially when they can fit into multiple. How do you choose?

Module 3

Color is light reflecting. Different colors create different emotions. Red can cause a person to feel angry or loved. Blue can cause people to feel sad and cold. There are two types of color. Primary colors or warm colors and secondary colors also known as cold colors. I enjoy learning about color. Colors have meaning but that meaning can be interpreted by individuals completely different from others. who would think that by looking at a color one could change their feelings or emotions. The final painting at the end of the video was beautiful. I thought it was incredible that she just felt the paint. she would just squeeze the paint tube on the canvas and go. She didn't seem to really have a plan. I need a plan. I would have had to have a sketch or the picture drawn out for me to be able to create anything. I cannot really just guess.Where a soldier is being sworn in. The faces are not perfectly clear but they seem to look angry to me. The background is black as the night sky and the one is holding swords to be it looks like something bad is going to happen. they explain that it is a swearing in. Color creates emotions and a feeling that may not be real. It baffles me that by just looking at something our mood can change. Art shows civilization changing.
