1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces? I thought the way they were was more realistic which is what I wanted to create. I chose some based on the fact that they were black and white.
2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait? I enjoy pencil and charcoal that is my favorite. I love the black and white look or portraits.
3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them? I had a lot of difficulties. I felt like I redid the portrait many time. Constantly erasing and fixing. I am still not completely satisfied with my final. I also had difficulties finding portraits from the online gallery.
4. How does this piece represent you? I wanted it to be realistic. I wanted to show me, nothing sugar coated, no makeup, actually this was right after I got out of the shower.
5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work? I tried to use texture in the hair. And I used different lines and shading to show contrast. I was going to use color and decided against it.
6. Did you enjoy working on this project? I did enjoy this. As difficult as it was I really liked this project. I love to draw and enjoy a challenge.
7. What do you think of your final artwork? Like I said before I am not fully satisfied with it. I like it but felt like I could do better but I would have started over. I put a lot of time in it and did not want to start over but the erasing was starting to show.
